Dear Members and Friends of Crescentville Church,

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!  Let earth receive her King;
let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing, and heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

Once again, we are in the midst of the Advent season.  And once again, we find
ourselves wondering what it means to “prepare Him room.”

Think of how you make preparations in your life.  Think of how you make sure you
are ready for whatever you are expecting.

If you’ve ever had a child, think of how you prepared.  Beginning with all of the
doctoring that is necessary to prepare for childbirth, you move to other ways of
preparing.  In designating a room in your home as a nursery, you might find yourself
painting and decorating that room, purchasing and putting together a crib and other
furnishings for your expected child.  You certainly will find yourself shopping for bedding,
clothing, diapers, and other sundries that will be necessary for when your child is born.
And then there is the preparation of what to name your child.  Looking through books,
talking with your spouse and other family members and friends, you prepare to name
your child.  All of this is real, necessary, and special.

With this in mind, I ask, how real is your expectation of how to welcome the
celebration of Christ’s birth or your expectation of how to prepare for His return?  My
hunch is that we prepare for these in proportion to how much we really believe they
happened or will happen.

So, in this season of Advent, I challenge you to ask yourself these questions.
And know that there are many here at Crescentville UMC who truly believe and therefore
desire to prepare to celebrate and to welcome Jesus into our midst!
O come, let us adore Him together!

Peace,
